Event description

Bring-in your own clothing and add pockets where you have always wanted them!

In this introductory-level course, students will learn how to machine sew, and create various styles of pockets. As we uncover the incredible history of the development of pockets in garments, we will learn how to incorporate them into existing garments, tote bags and other personal effects. Learn how to create patch, in-seam, slash, and welt pockets, and the infinite variations within each style. Students will also learn about various finishing stitches, fusible interfacing, and the best fabric choices to make the perfect pockets.

Cost: $279.00

Duration: 4 weeks, 1 class per week

Dates: Saturdays, July 12 - August 2, 2025

Time: 9:30am - 2:30pm (5 Hours)

About the Instructor:

Rebecca Vaughan creates sculptural installations and evolving social practice projects. These include such elements as those of gendered experiences: bread-baking, fiber-based techniques, matrilineal traditions of hand poke tattooing, as well as construction tools and equipment. Vaughan is a member of ArtNauts, an art collective that exhibits only in countries healing from conflict and contention. She previously served as the Artistic Director of PlatteForum, a non-profit that hosts artists-in-residence from all over the world. Ms. Vaughan was the Program Director for the Art Students League of Denver and was the Chair of Fine Arts and Head of Sculpture at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.

Supplies: The instructor will contact registered students directly regarding materials and supplies.

Parking: Parking is available in any of the (NON-RESERVED) KCAI parking lot spaces across campus. There is also available street parking surrounding KCAI campus. 

Refund: Registered participants can receive refunds to the original payment method (Studio Fee minus Humanitix Fee) up to 14 days before the first class.
